What is Qigong

“The art of cultivating the life force: exercises in which body and mind are in harmony.”

Qigong is a generic word for a variety of energy exercises and healing practices developed in ancient China. The word qigong is in Chinese composed of two characters: qi which means "life force" and gong which instead means "skill", "work", but also "achievement". So we could translate the word qigong like this: exercises in which body and mind are in harmony in order to govern the life force. More briefly I could say that qigong is the art of cultivating life force; cultivation that requires effort and time. Traditional Chinese Medicine postulates the existence of subtle energy that circulates within the body and mind of the human being. When it is strong and in balance, this energy is able to improve health, repel or slow down the process of the disease. The concept of bioenergy can also be found in other cultures such as the Ki of Japan, the prana of India or the Mana of Hawaii and the Philippines. According to the books used in the universities of traditional medicine, qigong is a self-learning process, a process that integrates the body, energy, and the use of the mind.

The Southern European Zhineng Qigong center is open to anyone interested in exploring this discipline.
